Cape Dorset Community

Cape Dorset is perhaps the capital of Inuit art in Canada and an important historical site of Inuit history.

In 1959, the first major exhibition of Cape Dorset Inuit sculpture was successfully held at the Stratford Festival, establishing carving and graphic art as the economic mainstay of the community.

The well-accomplished and renowned Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak among others helped in the establishment of Cape Dorset as an important aboriginal art center in Canada.
